Vimcar was founded by Andreas Schneider, Christian Siewek and Lukas Weber. Building on an Audi research project, the intention right from the start was to network vehicles regardless of their make and to digitise company cars and fleets.

On the path towards more digital company cars, Vimcar concentrated on digitising a particularly wearisome aspect: the handwritten logbook. With a small OBD dongle, the ‘company car’ suddenly transformed into a ‘connected car’. The logbook soon became a breeze for users - and all without any trouble from the taxman.

The German Association of Tax Consultants [Deutsche Steuerberaterverband e.V.] chose to cooperate for the first time and exclusively with a logbook provider, proof that the Vimcar solution met the strict standards of the German tax authorities. Now more than 5,000 tax consultants recommend Vimcar to their clients.

The market leader for finance software, Haufe-Lexware, chose Vimcar for their mileage tracking needs and started retailing our product. With the recommendation of the tax consultant guild DATEV, and in cooperation with the electronics retailer Media Markt, Vimcar was becoming a standard for more and more company cars in Germany.

Vimcar received an investment of 5 million euros, a record breaking sum in the connected car industry. With the support of well-known investors (including Venture Capital Partners, Coparion and the French Arnault Group), Vimcar was quickly advancing towards becoming the ‘digital fleet leader’.

Vimcar was now connecting more than 25,000 vehicles in the German-speaking world, helping more than just the self-employed, freelancers and employees save time, money and frustration with their digital logbook. Companies like Allianz, Zalando and Hertha BSC were also incorporating Vimcar dongles into their fleets.

Revolutionising fleet management needed space. After employing more than 50 employees, Vimcar moved to a new office. With around 750 square metres in the heart of the Berlin, there was now enough room for the next few milestones.

Vimcar ended another round of financing with another record investment. Alongside existing investors such as Coparion, UVC Partners and Atlantic Labs, Acton Capital also came on board — injecting a further 12 million euros into the connected car and fleet management startup.

Vimcar keeps on growing and has welcomed its 100th team member. With such rapid growth, office space has, again, become tight and we needed to start looking or an even larger space.

In less than three years, Vimcar has more than tripled the number of vehicles that use our award-winning software.

Despite the Brexit and Coronavirus, Vimcar has expanded to the UK, helping SMEs save money and time. A team of native English speakers has been added to our Headquarters, continuing to provide the same excellent support that German-speaking customers already rely on.

Vimcar began the year by reaching yet another milestone: 100,000 vehicles on the road using Vimcar technology. The company took another step towards its end goal and became a major force in digitising the company car of the future - in Germany and beyond.
